How about the Centara Kata Resort, is it far from the beach ?

It's about 500 meters as the central is situated behind the Club Med resort, central does a shuttle I believe to and from the beach but you can walk too.

Is it easy to walk from the central Kata resort to the beach or is it better to stay on the beach.

It is up a soi ( small road ) on the left coming from the beach, it is not so far but on a very hot day it might seem a bit much, but you need to balance that with the fact that unless you stay at the Club Med or the Kata beach resort in 'that area' of Kata you won't be on the beach anyway, you can go south over and down the hill to the kata Thani but that is much more expensive than the Central Kata Resort.

If you want to see the details of the Centara Kata Resort and also read the reviews, Centara Kata Resort Phuket and you can also get the local rates there as well in almost any currency, low season rates are only about USD 60 for a double with tax, service and breakfast included so it is reasonable in price for what you get.

What is the best place to book hotels, I know there are good suggestions here but anyone have their best opinion.

I think the best place to book hotels in Kata beach Phuket is on Phuket Hotels and Resort as they provide a very good service, you only pay 1 night deposit and the balance a few weeks before you arrive, also note that the Central resort is now called the Centara Kata Resort, Centara is the new brand name.

Bookings have now started for the high season from Noevmber to March so if you are planning a trip now is the time to get flights and hotels booked.

Katathani, well maybe 4 star or 5 star, or the Kata beach resort, also the Centara resort is good, there is a Club Med also.

Hotel bookings are very busy for the peak season, you may have to look for last minute deals to find something good.

The low season from now until the end of October is a good time to visit Thailand if you go where the good weather is. Koh Samui, Koh Tao,
Koh Prangan, also Hua Hin, Pranburi, Cha Am, Pattaya and Jomtien, also Koh Samet, all have reasonable weather.

Compared with other parts of the world this region is in fact not doing so bad for toursim compared with others. Good that airlines and hotelds are all offering good prices to attract visitors.

There are so many cheap flights and budget airlines, Air Asia and now Virgin Blue and also V Australia, all helps for a much cherper holiday :)
