Pull the blinds, lock the door, and saran-wrap your keyboards. It's that time of year again. Yes, I am in the thick of my annual pilgrimage into the "wilds" of Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains; into the land of black socks with sandals, overzealous spray tans, and "how ya' doin" in order to experience and send back a taste of Italian car pr0n at it's finest.

Yes, every year for the past 20 my family has driven 13 hours, foregone southern hospitality, and put up with oft-questionable accommodations in order to attend one of the largest Italian car gatherings on the east coast. Le Belle Macchine D'Italia Celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with the usual Concorso D'Eleganza (aka car show), and pair of track days at Pocono Int'l.

The Event, this year, calls Mount Airy Resort and Casino its home. Some 15 years ago, we visited the old Mount Airy resort....a cesspit which, mercifully, met it's end via bulldozer several years ago now to make way for the current, far more modern and biologically tolerable facility. It really is pretty nice, save for the hassle of dealing with all of the Casino tourists.

Technically day 2 of the event, a somewhat moist Saturday morning set the stage for the car show. Attendance probably suffered on account of the previous day's stormy conditions, with many regulars commuting from the NY/NJ area. With that said, it's not as if there wasn't anything to look at.

With that last statement in mind, and before you proceed any further, please open the following link in another window/tab.....in order to set the proper ambiance, you see...... Laughing

Right, with that done.....on to a few teasers:

The show field, as seen from the hotel:

Moving down a big closer:

As we walked through the gate, we were treated to a gaggle of classic Alfa Romeo race cars, at least a few of which will hopefully be on the track in the coming days. They're quite spectacular in the right hands:

Someone had also parked at 458, still sporting a paper drive-off tag, on the tarmac outside the main show area:

I'd been curious to look at the flex-wing thingies in person, and I probably only looked like a bit of a nerd getting close enough to take these:

A small party of challege/GT2 cars representing at the "show" portion. More of these to come I'm sure for the "go" portion:

This is a Maserati Ghibli, for those curious. It's the first one I can remember seeing, and certainly in better condition than most Maseratis of similar vintage:

Bentley brought some stuff:

This Ferrari 166MM is a sole survivor and had extensive race history (read, "it's probably worth more than the combined net worth of this forum's membership):

There were some Lamborghinis:

I hadn't seen a Gallardo SE yet (with an LP640 nose kitted on):

We were just a 288GTO short of full Ferrari "modern hyper car" representation:

Some DeTomaso Love:

I'm not sure this is how I'd have specced the interior of the Gallardo that I don't have, but to each their own I suppose:

Some possible precedent for the "Enzo-style" tail lights perhaps:

Gotta love the gold on black....very brand appropriate:

Same engine in both:

Lastly before I need to call it a night (early morning tomorrow). The F-50 is probably my favorite Ferrari, it's nearly as raw as the F-40, but has a V-12 and curves.

A brilliant, red Barchetta from a better, vanished time. Cool

As with last year, I am obscenely jealous. Nice pics, in for those from the track!

It's a Lamborghini LM002. At one point it held the production truck record up Pikes Peak. It's like a Hummer, only with no armor and the V12 from a Countach jammed in the front, and 345 section tires.

Walking around a golf course and looking at expensive cars whilst enduring a looped Sinatra serenade might be your idea of "as good as it gets"....not me so much. I'd much rather appreciate afore-mentioned exotica in their natural environment being used as intended....the act of which, of course, provides this latest update with the bulk of it's content.

As usual, I had some time to stroll around the paddock to see what was in store, and observe the usual morning shenanigans:

A few other non-italian interlopers rolled in including an STI as well as a later-pictured EVOX:

Doesn't need no stinking jacks:

Brakes on that car = impressive:

New SLS:

This guy showed up again....but unfortunately not with a helmet:

Ditto these guys unfortunately:

Not that I could resist

This guy brought his though:

So did these guys:

Some damn nice cars at this event, especially the older exotics. Cool

Ok, enough with the static photos. We needs motion:

Bentley going forwards:

Bentley going sideways:

(guy drifted this corner about 3 laps in a row, and then it needed new tires)

A semi-representative sample:

SLS Gettin' it's hustle on:

This guy stuffed a red FD into a wall here last year. He stripped that car, bought a shell from GA, and was out there again this year....with better results so far:

The GT2 is somewhat more difficult to frame in a tracking shot than the old Pantera:

This car was fast:

When it wasn't backwards.....

More Pantera love:

This guy ran about 1 session, backfired a lot, sounded like he started breaking up on the top end, and quit after that:

This car is an Alfa Romeo, it weighs nothing, has a V12, sounds like the devil, and turned a 1:26.xx IN TRAFFIC......don't make 'em like they used to....

.....and just a few more for now:

The rest are here from today (well, the best quality anyway):

I typically don't care for exotics, but if I ever find myself FU rich, I must have one of these.
