Anyone have any clue who around here can make me a custom 3" stainless DP for the MSP?
Not interested in any of the "tuner" shops around here. _________________

| Can you cut and mock up the pipes yourself? That makes it easier. Otherwise you're going to leave your car with someone and pay a lot for their time and skill. |

Ya that sounds difficult. Ive seen them make custom headers and exhaust parts on some of the car shows, and it looks doable if you can weld. Im shure you've checked, but have you tried eBay? I doubt a local custom job would be any better quality than an eBay cheapy. _________________

There are no aftermarket downpipes for the MSP. Well there's one, but it's backordered, and I want the downpipe before I go to Asheville for a dyno tune.
I can probably make one myself, well between me, and my friends we can make one. Just would be easier if I could find someone local.
WTF do diesel guys do when they need huge exhaust custom bent? _________________

I know Full Boost and Extreme Welding in Halls have ability to TIG and a decent welder (the person, not the machine) on hand. Can't comment on how good or bad they would be at actually fabricating it. I do that stuff myself.
The diesel guys are usually doing huge pipe and losing a cat, so I doubt they care about mandrel bends.

| At one time there was a guy on Clinton highway up the hill from the Harley Davidson spot with his shop behind a garage. He did custom work but specialises in exhaust for classic hot rods. He was pretty good though. Made a one off for my mellinia. |

I'd buy the flanges and have an exhaust shop do it. I'm thinking about doing that with mine. Picking up the flanges off ebay, and either fabricating it up at the shop or having the guys that do my exhaust work do it. You could always just sit and hit refresh on the M247 marketplace. That's basically what I had to do to get my SSAFC. When I have the money there's nothing. When I don't theres a million of them that get sold immediately. _________________

| Kar kare on Kingston pike did my 3in downpipe on my old 240 years ago. It's wasn't mandrel but mandrel doesn't really matter on a turbo with 4 in piping. |

Wound up ordering a P.E.P. downpipe. Hopefully it makes it here in time. _________________

probably a good call, there is little to no space for a custom downpipe. If i recall the PEP is a cast bellmouth, then welded to a pipe lower down correct? Seemed like a nice piece. _________________ -Adam-

Yeah, the top is cast. Hopefully this gets rid of the restriction in the exhaust.
Cannot wait for a real tune, from a renowned tuner! So stoked. Also very curious to see what she puts down. I'm thinking like 170whp, at least that's what I tell everyone it makes. _________________

Does Kar Kare have decent prices on custom exhausts? Wanting to go to 3" but I have had shops turn me down or tell me exorbitant prices. If I knew where to find 3 inch piping I would just make it myself. I built my current exhaust out of crap from pullapart but 3" is hard to come by there. _________________ Jim K.

Making one really isn't that hard at all if you have the tools.
- Chop Saw with a Metal Cutting Disc
- Ordered my piping from JEGS
- Flanges from eBay
- A welder to at least tack it together
Took me a few hours to make one and I had no experience doing anything like that whatsoever. Just kept making angled cuts and making my bends and test-fitting. That might be a bitch on the mazda, though. It takes all of 2 seconds to get the downpipe on/off on the 240 for a test fit. |
