I was checking out some of Andrews little AutoX YouTube films, I can see some potential in them. Pretty decent editing work.

I was thinking of proposing the idea of doing a short feature on some of us regular, (or irregular) guys and putting something nice together to represent.

My DSLR does HD. 720@30 fps but only 1080@20fps.
1080p wouldn’t be too necessary unless someone has a usable badass computer. I’m sure somebody has better stuff and lenses. Connor cough cough

Probably something we could take our time on next spring, but doesn't mean we can’t shoot some now.

Anybody got any expertise?

I've been wanting to do something like this for a while. I've been wanting to do like a Houston vid. Maybe not the street racing part, but something cool like that. A GoPRO would be great to have as well, to get cool rolling wheel shots and such.

I have the software and love doing the editing stuff. Learn a little more each time I play with it.

I have the same camera as Guilty1s, so I'm HD capable as well. This could be fun. Smile

I'd volunteer to have whoever is filming ride shotgun with me, to get the moving shots with a few people.

I may have to see if my brother will ship his camera down so I can shoot in 720p.

Can also talk to Jared and see if he can let us borrow his GoPro. I definitely think we should do this, be a lot of fun and cool to do. Been wanting to do this for a couple years now.

This is the Houston Vid I'm talking about. Doesn't have to involve the racing, but it makes it more exciting Laughing I just like how it was filmed.

I got a decent tripod too for some stationary work.

Trip to the dragon is also necessary.

Dragon video be nice for some rolling shots with a camera hooked to a fender. Other than that incar footage is quite boring with the dragon.

We need hot chicks in skimpy clothing just cause its neccessary Laughing

I've got a pretty good suction mount (i.e. you could climb a wall or maybe pop a dent with it) on semi-permanent loan from a friend. It doesn't have a long arm or anything, but it's got a full range of articulation.

Stylistically the Houston vid had an ok intro, but the rest of it kinda dragged on (no pun intended with the racing). Also it's nothing to make a cheap "steady-cam" rig (i.e. collapsed tripod with a weight on the bottom) to get the shake out of the walking shots and stuff.

I've seen a few decent "car club" vids:

IMV films always hold my attention:
(grant it they're talking about 1 car and development so there's a lot more content from that end).

I'm sure both were done with some baller equipment, but just substitue a little creativity and we'd be aight. The key IMO is to do something that's flattering to the local scene, and those who take part, but avoids anything illegal, and doesn't end up making us look like the walmart parking lot crowd Wink

I liked 1:25 point on the NSX video where it picked up a bit.

IMV always has good stuff.

Both IMV and NSX vid def had baller equipment.

Indeed

Also an external audio source will probally be necesary in certain situations.

It will be necesary in ALL situations. On board mics on cameras (especially stills like yours that can shoot in video) are...well...aweful. If you guys are actually serious about this, don't half ass a damn thing. This means a proper HD video camera with a proper lense, actual external mics (shotgun/cardio mics would be optimal for exhaust: lavalier for interviews) and the use of a good editing software (and if you think iMovie qualifies, you ARE WRONG).

Sorry for the lack of faith, but that's the Journalism major with many hours of production experience in my past typing...

Well supply all the expensive stuff so we can make a Spielberg film and we won't half ass it. This is just for fun. Not a Universal Motion Picture.

An external mic in all situations? Unless you're using a GoPro or GoPro HD, I think not. Most any decent point & shoot camera that can record 640x480 at 30 fps will have decent enough audio for our purposes.

yeah, for decent engine noise you've gotta go with a remote mic. I've had decent success using a $10 lapel mic strategically taped near the airbox. It's not full production quality, but it's a crap ton better than wind noise.
